The ACT (American College Testing) is a standardised test for college admissions in the USA. The ACT exam evaluates a candidate’s readiness for college. The test covers reading, mathematics, English skills, simple data analysis and scientific reasoning. It also has an optional essay section.

About the ACT Exam

What is the ACT test comprised of and how long is it?

  • There are four areas on the ACT: Mathematics, Reading, English and Science. There is also an optional essay at the end.
  • The test takes approximately 3 hours without the essay and an extra 30 minutes if you write the essay.
  • Total number of questions: 215
  • Maximum score: 36
  • Recommended level: B2.
