A tricky question most of our students ask us is: "What do homework and fun have in common?"

Well, you see, one of the simplest mistakes to make on Sentence Correction questions in the GMAT is not to instantly spot incorrect subject-verb agreement. As you do better in your exam the questions will get a bit more tricky. You MUST memorize some nouns which are non-count in English, but which are often count in other languages. Here are a few:

furniture
luggage
water
bread
butter
pollution
flour
Chinese
English
chemistry
literature
fire
fog
hail

As all our GMAT students learn very quickly, we need to categorize nouns according to groups such as: fluids, solids, particles etc.

Another non-count group that we focus on is called "abstractions" and consists of such nouns as: advice, vocabulary, homework and fun.

So there you go - homework and fun actually do have something in common :-)
